toilet roll mask by master origamist, Junior Jacquet
"I just LOVE art (long pause) . . . and strawberries," mused a contented first grade artist today. That is a quote that will stick with me for a while. Today first and second graders finished their toilet paper roll mask sculptures. We studied the amazing art of Junior Fritz Jacquet, and tried our best to emulate his style. I was rather amazed that even though the project requires very strong fingers and a lot of patience, there were no tears at all. We truly learned how to appreciate art!
One of the great privileges and joys of my life is teaching art. Today, I taught kids how to draw a simple Castilian rose. Above is a kindergartener diligently making a rose. We are getting ready for the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Our plan is to shower her with roses. Below is a composite of 7th and grade roses.
I am not one to rush time, and I do love Thanksgiving. Christmas has begun to show itself in the studio, however, as this treasure hunter has found some lovely things to use in making celebratory art. For those of us that need lead time in our celebrations, let the making begin!
I will never complain again about too many passwords, because the last time I did . . . I LOST THEM ALL! Anyway, I am back and the studio is gearing up for the holidays with all kinds of wonderful vintage finds ready to make their way into art!
This piece is based on a vintage French post card and is built on a cigar box.
